Fog at the Beach

There was massive fog rolling in at the Beach yesterday when I went down there for a walk. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

At first glance.....

A closer inspection.....

Inside the fog.....

On the knitting front, I am just about the start on the heal flap. The instructions say to purl the first row of the heal flap but that caused purl bumps on the outside of the sock, so I ripped it out. I will do a knit row first and purl the second row so that all bumps are on the inside of the sock. Can anyone tell me if this is okay?

All I know is that every time I knit a heal, I feel certain there's a mistake in the pattern, but then it turns out. (Not that I'm a sock pro yet.)

it depends what kind of heel you're doing. Generally, the flap-and-pick-up heels have the purl bumps to the inside, and same with a regular short-row heel. A garter stitch heel, though, will have (obviously) bumps on both sides.
Do you have a picture of the pattern to look at to see if there are bumps on the outside?

hi valerie
nope no photot of the sock to go with the pattern but it looks right to me. the knit stitches are all on the outside of the sock and all the purl stitches on the inside.
