Tuesday Update on Wednesday

I can't believe I forgot to post about the dress yesterday. I am lacking in my posting obligations.

The dress is moving along at a very progressive pace. This week I decided to make a modification to the dress in the neckline area. Saving myself at least 5 hours worth of work. It's quite fun to see the looks on peoples faces, when I tell them I'm working on my wedding dress. Most folks are taken aback at first.

As of late, there have been a few comments around weight. For example, that I won't be able to gain or loose any weight once the dress is finished since I'll want to be able to fit into the dress. It's slightly annoying, as weight is not a high priority on my list any day of the year.

If any more schmucks comment about your weight-you send 'em to me.

What a weird comment -- most people stay more or less at a stable weight, which is what I assume you are making your (totally gorgeous) dress for. Is the implication that you will get fat, or that you should lose more weight? I would be annoyed too!

I agree weird comment, surely that logic applies to all wedding dresses (even if shop bought) as once you buy the dress its your,s and any alterations made are for you, so you can hardly return it. Surely making your dress is better as it is a total custom fit, as opposed to altering a pre-made dress.
I'm in awe of you being able to do such a thing - my mum made her wedding dress, as she couldn't find what she wanted in the shops and couldn't afford a custom-made one.
My sewing skills are go as far a bags at the moment, although I have promised myself I will try to make clothes in the summer when I've lost some more weight.

How rude! I don't care what the situation is, don't talk about someone's weight. *hrmph*

I adore that picture, btw. It put a big ol' smile on my face. :)

Ditto on what everyone said!

As a snotty comment you could say something to the effect of "Well, body fat can easy be lost but a fat mouth requires surgery."

Okay, maybe that's too mean to actually say but at at least you can think it, right?

I doubt anyone means anything by it. Like Lyndsey-Jane says, it’s the same with all wedding dresses and I like I said to your before, you’re lucky because you are making yours!

Nicky just got married and we had to have her dress taken in at the last minute, despite the fact she is 7 months pregnant, and my size 8 friend Jenny dropped to a size 6 in the weeks before her wedding because she was so stressed and again there was last minute rushing around to make it fit...

I sell some of our more unusual dresses in the shop to women for weddings all the time (like today in fact), and we nearly always have the weight conversation: “is this your usual weight, do you fluctuate at all, how long until the wedding?” and stuff like that, but this is simply because it is one of the only outfits you’ll wear in your whole life that you plan waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in advance (and that you’ve really set your heart on wearing – especially so I would think if you’ve spent months making it!). I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t discuss all the relevant factors to making the purchase of such an important garment, because things can change, and often people don’t think about that when they buy a wedding dress. I’ve worked in fashion retail for, what, 12 years, and I’ve found very few women who don’t have a few different sizes of clothes in their wardrobe. I know I do!

Like I say, I doubt anyone meant any harm, or insult to you but are more likely wanting to show their interest and offer their support for what is nothing short of a remarkable project!!!!!

Much love and see you soon! xxx

hey! I just noticed this post now. My weight changes constantly! But that's due to the meds I'm on. And isn't it harder to alter crocheted garments than sewn?
