Crochet

I never thought I'd be writing this but does anyone know how to crochet and want to teach me the basics? Don't ask why, lets just say it involves a garment that I would like to attempt to make and the only way to do that would be to learn how to crochet. After I get my hands on the damn yarn for the pattern that is, or something suitably close.

Part of what I want to make looks like this.

My other, more obvious choice of course, would be to take a class at Romni or another knitting store. Let the class search and sign ups begin.

Hi MJ, I would be happy to teach you the basics!

After she teaches you, can you teach me? I can do the chain stitch but for patterns I never know where to make the next stitch, so it ends up crooked. Maybe there are videos online? I haven't looked yet, but there are for knitting.

Hi Melinda - I'm certainly happy to help out. I'd also suggest that Mary Maxim at Yonge & Eglinton has very reasonable classes.

Not one but two of you willing to teach me how to crochet. You gals are the best. I will be so taking you both up on your offers.

No worries Carla, I will teach you once they teach me.

I picked up a copy of How to Crochet at a used book store. It's in a box...somewhere...

I can't wait for you to be able to crochet. I will learn one day but I really don't have the brain capacity right now. I've had my eye on a butterfly crochet shawl from one of the Knit1 mags a while back.

I love the wedding dress from the post below - you know Frost's grandma knitted a friend of Frost's Mum's a wedding dress?! And by the way, I think it would suit you a treat, but making it sleeve-less and shorter would take the proportions out. Would love to see that book at some point though - I've got Nicky's wedding to plan for next summer - not that I'll be knitting her a wedding dress you understand, after the trek its PhD all the way!!!

Crochet is really pretty easy. I learned as a child and taught myself to knit as an adult. Of the two, crochet is easier, but knitting is more interesting. Google "crochet instructions" and I bet you get a wealth of sites with good info.
